Busak+Shamban meets objective of a lower total production costwith a unique single piece, polyurethane brass-caged seal designthat facilitates automated assembly of pneumatic cylinders in highvolume.
The ability for a sealing solution to be efficiently handled onan automated, high speed, high volume assembly line was a primaryrequirement of the sealing configuration developed by Busak+Shambanengineers for a leading pneumatic cylinder manufacturer.
A unique combination of polyurethane U-Cup rod seal, single lipwiper and guide ring were moulded together as one piece and cagedin brass for a rod sealing application. The polyurethane innerprovides excellent sealing and high wear resistance, whilst groovesaround the circumference minimise rod friction and combatstick-slip, even in dry running conditions.
The outer brass cage achieves easy installation and acts as aneffective static seal, through interference fit within thehousing. Additionally, the new sealing arrangement protects thesystem from ingress of dirt.
The new seals are proven to provide a significant overallreduction in assembly costs, meeting customer cost-out requirementsfor sealing their pneumatic cylinder.
The new polyurethane brass-caged seals from Busak+Shamban havenow been supplied for rod diameters of 12 to 24 mm, to withstandpressures up to 1.6 MPa, within a temperature range of -30°C to80°C and at speeds up to 1 m/s.
