Busak+Shamban offer a range of O-Rings, available off-the-shelf, to cost-effectively meet the requirements of ISO 6149, which defines the use of metric threads fitted with O-Ring seals onhydraulic connectors.
Effective sealing in hydraulic connections has always been a challenge for hydraulic engineers. Originally, these connections relied on metal interference and compression of threads to create the
hydraulic sealing function. This type of connection though was prone to leakage and caused problems in remaking the sealing function after maintenance.
As an alternative, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) came up with the idea of a straight thread design in which an elastomer seal, usually an O-Ring, does the sealing. A standard, ISO 6149
was developed from this, which defined the use of metric threads fitted with O-Ring seals.
To meet this standard three different types of connection, incorporating ISO 6149 threads, are commonly used as defined in ISO8434. These are:
- 8434-1 37° flared fittings
- 8434-2 24° cutting ring fittings
- 8434-3 Fittings with face seal and O-Rings
