Latest addition to the Busak+Shamban range of aerospaceengineered polymer compounds is Turcon® HPNA. This high pressure,non-abrasive, PTFE material is specially formulated to offerlow-friction sealing coupled with increased wear resistance andimproved leakage control.
Specifically developed to meet the increasing demands on sealingsystems within the new generation of airframe platforms, Turcon®HPNA has the ability to offer sealing security throughout theincreased component life cycles associated with longer flight timesand distances. The increased reliability provided by Turcon® HPNA,directly affects critical component performance, andconsequentially, operational efficiency.
A new PTFE material was required to provide increased wearresistance, improved leakage control, superior low-friction and becompliant with global environmental standards. Turcon® HPNA wasdeveloped to meet this demanding criteria by utilising latesttribology methods combined with a unique method of materialanalysis, latest engineered polymer filler packaging and processingtechniques. The result is an optimum compound crystallinestructure, offering unrivalled physical qualities. The new Turcon®HPNA material properties include: a dense and homogeneous materialstructure, high temperature resistance through utilisation ofaromatic polymer fillers, excellent wear resistance and increasedseal stability in-service.
In practice, the material is easily machinable into complex andwell defined shapes, has low co-efficient of friction and is suitedto low-lubrication environments, whilst the use of non-abrasivefiller materials negates abrasion of mating surfaces under highloading conditions. Turcon® HPNA is resistant to a wider range ofaircraft fluids than other competitive seal materials, withimmersion tests showing the material to have an acceptableresistance to Skydrol 500B.
Turcon® HPNA is ideal for high-cycle, high-frequency applicationssuch as primary flight control (PFCU) sealing systems.
