| Name | Chevron Packings |
| Definition | A type of piston or rod seal consisting of several "V" shaped seals nested on top of each other. They are assembled with a reinforced backing ring to assist with extrusion resistance and with a compression ring that is used to impart axial squeeze on the chevron packing thereby imposing a transverse strain and energizing the packing. |
