Definition Abbreviation for International Rubber Hardness Degrees, the most commonly used measure of hardness for rubber, derived from the depth of penetration of a specified indenter, a rigid ball, into the rubber specimen; the scale has a range of 0 to 100, 0° indicating a material showing no measurable resistance to indentation, and 100° indicating a material showing no measurable indentation.
